What they do

Backup & Restore — explained

Two paired functions inside the Chrysler Tool. Always run Backup on the original PCM before you swap modules, then Restore on the new one.

Backup PCM

Reads the current PCM configuration off the vehicle and saves it locally to your phone. Run this while the original PCM is still installed, before any swap or programming step.

Restore PCM

Writes your saved backup into the currently connected PCM — typically the new or replacement module — so it carries the original vehicle configuration. Use after the swap.

Order matters. If you don’t have a backup yet, you’ll see a "No Backup Found — Run Backup PCM first" message. Always backup before you remove the original PCM.

Step-by-step video

A full walkthrough of the Backup & Restore flow inside the Auto101 Pro App.

Procedure A

How to back up the PCM

Do this before you remove the old PCM. Should take about a minute on most vehicles.

1

Plug in & pair

Plug the OBD101 into the vehicle’s OBD2 port. Open the Auto101 Pro App, scan, and connect to OBD101.

2

Open the Chrysler tool

From the home screen, choose Chrysler Tool. Make sure ignition is ON, engine OFF.

3

Run Get Info first

Tap Get Info to confirm the VIN and module IDs match the vehicle you intend to back up.

4

Tap "Backup PCM"

The button reads Backup PCM until a backup exists; after that it switches to Restore PCM.

5

Confirm the dialog

The app reminds you: “Make sure the ORIGINAL PCM is installed in the vehicle before backing up.” Tap Start Backup.

6

Done — backup saved

You’ll see a success state and the app offers to Send to support if you need a tech to assist with restore.

Tip: Once a backup exists, the same button on the Chrysler tool changes its label from Backup PCM to Restore PCM — and gets a soft glow.
Procedure B

How to restore into a new / replacement PCM

Run this after you’ve installed the new PCM. The app writes the saved configuration into the currently connected module.

1

Install the new PCM

Physically install the replacement PCM and reconnect everything. Ignition ON, engine OFF.

2

Plug OBD101 & pair

Plug OBD101 in, open the app, and connect Bluetooth to OBD101.

3

Open Chrysler Tool

Run Get Info on the new module to confirm communication.

4

Tap "Restore PCM"

The button now reads Restore PCM with a soft glow indicating you have a saved backup.

5

Review the popup

You’ll see “Use this Restore to configure a new or replacement PCM. It writes the saved configuration data from this backup to the currently connected PCM.” Plus the timestamp of the saved backup.

6

Confirm Restore

Tap Confirm Restore, then accept the type-confirmation. The app writes the data; keep the vehicle still & powered.

Important: Restore writes module configuration data. Don’t interrupt the procedure, don’t crank the engine, and keep Bluetooth in range. If anything looks off, stop and open a remote-help ticket from inside the app.
If restore didn’t go smoothly

Send us your Backup data

If the Restore failed, the new PCM doesn’t come alive, or you simply want a tech to look at it before you continue — send us your saved backup file directly from the app. We’ll use it to match a replacement PCM to your vehicle, or guide you through the next step.

Send PCM data screen inside the Auto101 Pro App
  1. 1
Open the Chrysler Tool in the Auto101 Pro App.
  2. 2
Tap the headset icon at the top right (next to the menu) to open Support.
  3. 3
You’ll see “Live remote help · end-to-end secure session.” Scroll down to the card titled “Send PCM + logs for a replacement.”
  4. 4
Tap the blue Send PCM data button. The app uploads your saved backup plus the relevant logs securely to our team.
  5. 5
You’ll get a confirmation, then an Auto101 tech follows up — either with a programmed replacement PCM matched to your VIN, or with the next steps to finish the restore remotely.
The transfer is encrypted end-to-end. Your VIN, PCM serial, and backup file stay private to your case.

Where Backup / Restore is supported

Chrysler PCM Backup & Restore is designed for FCA / Stellantis vehicles — Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram.

Not sure if your vehicle is supported? Run Get Info first — if the PCM identifies cleanly, Backup & Restore will work. For SGW-protected vehicles you may need an SGW gateway bypass; the app will guide you.
Stuck or unsure?

We can run it for you — remotely

You don’t have to figure it out alone. Auto101 technicians can connect to your OBD101 over a secure remote session and operate the Chrysler Tool for you — running the Backup or finishing the Restore while you watch from the driver’s seat.

  1. 1
Open the Chrysler Tool in the app and tap the headset icon at the top right.
  2. 2
Choose Start a ticket for remote help. Fill in the ticket and describe your issue (failed restore, no-start after swap, dead PCM, etc.).
  3. 3
Submit the ticket. One of our technicians will reach out, schedule a slot, and run the procedure remotely through your OBD101 — end-to-end secure.
Tickets are tracked inside the app — you’ll see status updates and a chat with the assigned tech, plus the live remote session when it starts.
