Step 1 — PCM Installation
Plug and Play Installation
Chrysler PCM replacement is a plug and play procedure. If you provided your VIN when ordering, the PCM arrives pre-programmed with your vehicle's VIN and is ready to install.
In most cases, simply disconnect the battery, swap the PCM, reconnect the battery, and start the vehicle.
Step 2 — SKIM Check Before Installing
Review This Before Installation
SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) is Chrysler's anti-theft system. It communicates with the PCM to verify the key before allowing the engine to start. In certain situations, the SKIM module must be removed before installing the new PCM.
When SKIM Removal is Required
You must remove the SKIM module before installing the new PCM if any of the following apply to your vehicle:
- VIN was not provided when ordering — the PCM VIN cannot be updated and will not match the vehicle
- You want to disable the SKIM security system — SKIM delete is required for this
- The SKIM module in the vehicle was previously replaced with one from a different vehicle (mismatched VIN)
Critical Warning
If any of the situations above apply and the SKIM module was not removed before installing the new PCM, the vehicle will not start. The security system will prevent the engine from cranking.
Always verify your situation before installation to avoid this issue.
How to Detect a Replaced SKIM Module
The Two-Key Sign
A common indicator that the SKIM module was previously replaced with a mismatched unit is having two different keys for the same vehicle:
One key locks and unlocks the doors
A different key is needed to start the engine
If this applies to your vehicle, the SKIM module must be removed before installing the new PCM.
Quick Reference
Standard Installation
When: VIN was provided, SKIM module is original and matches vehicle
Process: Disconnect battery — install PCM — reconnect battery — start vehicle
SKIM Removal Required
When: Any of the three situations listed above apply
Process: Remove SKIM module first — then install PCM — vehicle will start without security check
Step 3 — ETC Reset (If Needed)
Electronic Throttle Control Reset
After installing a new PCM, the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system may need to be recalibrated. If you experience rough idle, throttle response issues, or a throttle-related warning light after installation, perform the ETC reset using the Auto101 App.
Before Starting ETC Reset
Ignition must be ON, engine must be OFF. You will be prompted to press the gas pedal to the floor and then release it during the procedure. Follow the app's on-screen instructions exactly.

Important Notes
SKIM System Overview
SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) verifies the transponder key signal before allowing the PCM to start the engine. A mismatch between the PCM and SKIM will result in a no-start condition — the engine will crank but not fire.
VIN Matching
Always provide your VIN when ordering. The PCM arrives pre-programmed with your vehicle's VIN. If the VIN is not programmed or does not match, the vehicle may not start or may run incorrectly.
ETC Reset Timing
Do not rush the pedal steps. Hold the gas pedal firmly to the floor when prompted and wait for the app to confirm before releasing. The app sends keep-alive signals automatically while waiting for your input.
